Overview

The TLD Rack Automation System is a network-connected, RFID-enabled rack solution designed for the secure storage, identification, and monitoring of TLD badges in radiation safety and regulated laboratory environments. The system ensures server-validated slot assignment, real-time slot-level status indication, centralized monitoring, and automated alert generation, thereby improving traceability, operational accuracy, and compliance.

The architecture integrates RFID/NFC readers, embedded PoE controllers, Ethernet-based networking, centralized server processing, and cellular communication into a modular and scalable rack system. The system is designed for continuous, unattended operation with minimal manual intervention, making it suitable for radiation safety laboratories and personnel dosimetry management facilities.

  • RFID Identification: 13.56 MHz NFC-based TLD badge detection using PN532 or equivalent RFID readers
  • System Capacity 9 racks × 16 slots per rack (Total capacity: 144 TLD badges)
  • Control & Processing ESP32 PoE–based embedded controllers with centralized Raspberry Pi 4 server
  • Power & Networking Single Ethernet cable providing both power and data via Power-over-Ethernet (PoE)
  • Alerts & Communication LTE Cat-1 modem for automated SMS alerts in case of non-returned or incorrectly placed badges
  • User Indication Slot-level LED and audible buzzer indication with server-side validation
